Another one of the numerous quirky Amsterdam hotels: it is not called the College Hotel for nothing - the hotel is actually part of the ROC Amsterdam hotel management college and serves as a training centre for the students. The neo-Gothic building was constructed in 1895, just like the Rijksmuseum next door. 80 % of the staff are students, a fact that makes you want to turn a blind eye to anything that goes wrong (a thing you would never do at an ordinary hotel). Would you reprimand a schoolgirl working in the reception? You will be reminded of school by a number of details in the interior: the banisters, the school desks brilliantly incorporated into the design... Combined with designer furniture and the bathrooms that are the embodiment of modern day hedonism, these elements create a charming, surprisingly intimate and warm ambience. The secret of the College Hotel's charm is probably its irregularity and compactness: there are 36 rooms and 4 suites in the hotel, and it is located not far from Vondelpark, the Amsterdam museum neighbourhood and the stylish Pijp neighbourhood. The College Hotel restaurant and bar are quite popular among locals as well; the restaurant is housed in a converted school gym.
