Destroyed and rebuilt several times, the Ujazdów Castle was finally fully restored and renovated in the 1970s, and its modernised interior was adapted for the needs of the Centre for Contemporary Art. Over the 20 years of its existence the CCA has focused on building its collection, concentrating its attention on the qualitative changes in contemporary art. The collection is structured like a frame of reference for the most important art achievements of the past 50 years in Poland and abroad. The CCA permanent exhibit is the only contemporary art collection in Warsaw to provide a clear insight into the endemic qualities of Polish art within a context of the quintessential works and names of international contemporary art. The centre also hosts various exhibitions, concerts, shows and creative workshops. The busy art centre restaurant, Qchnia Artystyczna ( 'Artistic Kitchen'), is especially popular.
