Often compared with Diesel, Acne Jeans is a Swedish denim success story, and can be called a fashion equivalent to ABBA. Acne was established in 1996 as a team of four creative personalities. The idea was to develop a brand that would manufacture its own products, at the same time, gathering a group of satellite-labels, representing a variety of industries, starting from fashion and showbiz to modern technologies. Currently, Acne has evolved to be a creative empire, consisting of such names as Acne Creative, Acne Films, Acne Paper and Acne Digital. The company's name stands for Ambition to Create Novel Expression, and one of its founding members, designer of Acne Jeans Jonny Johansson, tells that as an inspiration for them has served Andy Warhol's Factory. In 1997, Johansson created a collection of just 100 pairs of jeans to give away to his friends. Recognized by typical red stitches, impeccable cut and slender silhouette, they soon acquired popularity on Stockholm fashion scene. Today Acne Jeans boasts to be among the best known brands worldwide and has started collaboration with a French luxury fashion house, Lanvin. Moreover, it's long since Acne Jeans collections offers much more than just jeans and has expanded to a full range of daily wear clothing, both for men and women, including kids' fashion branch Acne Baby.
