This cultural complex and modern art museum in the Eyüp neighborhood of Istanbul is housed in a restored and converted power station that was built during the Ottoman Empire. The impressively huge Santralistanbul opened in 2007, and features an amphitheatre, concert halls, a library, a museum, and a fantastic collection of contemporary art -- all scattered throughout its numerous levels. But in the middle of all that is new, the architects wisely retained the character-full details of the building's old, industrial architecture - a stylish homage to the structure's almost century-old history.
