After a thorough renovation, Ada reopened in 2007 as the city's hippest bookshop-cafe. The cavernous interior opens to the street, with books stacked to the high ceilings and an excellent cafe (also serving alcohol). So Ada is the spot not just for high culture and literature, but that essential Istanbul pastime - people-watching on Beyoğlu's main pedestrian avenue, all to the accompaniment of pretty unobtrusive music. You can't miss it, on your right towards the end of the street as you walk down from Taksim, near the Tünel Square end. Open from 10 am to midnight, this is the place to idle away an hour or two soaking up the literature, and atmosphere, of Beyoğlu.
