Rihanna

The Barbados-born Rihanna is a star of the radio charts, a role model for young girls worldwide and a universally recognised style icon. At the Paris Fashion Week she is always seen sitting in the front row; all camera lenses are focusing on her. Last year was a time of reflecting on her life and career for Rihanna: early in 2009 she was brutally beaten by her own boyfriend while sitting in a Lamborghini. Snapshots of the badly bruised and bloodied Rihanna immediately appeared in the media. It took several months for the singer to pull herself together and find some inner equilibrium. Her personal drama inspired her to record a new album - her best to date - entitled Rated R: progressive, aggressive and melancholic at the same time. Rihanna is the owner of one of the most distinctive and recognisable voices in contemporary R&B. After the unpleasant events in her life, the singer's voice, slightly grating and metallic, is sounding even more confidently; her visual style has become even more erotically sophisticated. Today, she is more likely to be compared to the one and only Grace Jones than other current pop chart stars.
