Devoted to England's most famous writer and inaugurated on his birthday (April 23), this six-month-long festival promises to be the biggest celebration of Shakespeare ever staged. Taking place concurrently with the Summer Olympic Games in London, the festival will feature all of Shakespeare's plays, which are to be performed in 37 different languages by almost 70 different theatre troupes from numerous countries. Among them are the host of the festival - the Royal Shakespeare Company - as well as the avant-garde Wooster Group from New York. This will be an occasion for theatre lovers to see the oeuvres of such world-famous directors as Dmitri Krimov (Russia), Grzegor Jarzyna (Poland) and Tim Crouch (UK). Besides classic renditions of Shakespeare's works, one will also find completely new productions that have been inspired by the texts and themes of his plays.
