In 2008, American luxury hotel chain Hyatt opened the first hotel of its new Andaz brand in the building of the former Great Eastern Hotel. The company announced a new hotel concept, which Hyatt calls "casual luxury", and which combines the style of a boutique hotel with quality personal service, highlighting personal preference in all aspects, from design to service. Instead of a traditional lobby the Andaz Liverpool Street has an elegant drawing room; instead of a concierge, a special member of staff to help each of the guests individually. Free laundry service etc. Each of the rooms is different, the interior of the hotel is decorated with pieces of contemporary art, and guests are also offered individual culture programmes like the East End Art tour. In keeping with the spirit of the age, the eco-friendly nature of the project is emphasised. Room service menu is not printed on paper but may instead be found on the TV screen. Admittedly, as the offspring of a large hotel chain, Andaz Liverpool Street is not small: it comprises 267 rooms.
