Borough Market, London

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

A gourmet market, the ultimate gastronomic paradise. It is a place to be visited on Friday or Saturday mornings after a very light breakfast: you are guaranteed to eat your fill and then some. Tasting some olives is a must, they are fabulous and incredibly large. And oysters: definitely better and cheaper (!) than anywhere else in London. They are displayed in huge baskets: wait for your turn, pick the ones you fancy and they will be opened and offered with a glass of white wine. Don't miss the cheese stall - do at least stop to have a nibble. Borough Market is not a large place and only very special things are on offer. It is a real paradise of aromas and flavours. By the way, there used to be a fruit and vegetable market as long ago as the 13th century but it became a gourmet destination only in 1999 when Borough Market was re-opened in its present image. Look for the market between Borough High Street, Stoney Street and Winchester Walk.

The tube: London Bridge station.
Open: Fridays 9 am - 6 pm, Saturdays 9 am - 4 pm.
