Ottawa Jazz Festival, Canada

Author: Māris Briežkalns

All the most prominent concerts in Ottawa take place in Confederation Park. Several various size stages are set up for the festival, and listeners can choose anything, according to their liking, and sit on folding-chair, taken along with them. A free and democratic atmosphere is characteristic to concerts in parks, yet take into consideration that people may walk around, talk aloud and the general quality of sound is not as good as in indoor venues.
Some other Ottawa festival concerts take place at the National Arts Centre or at the hotel Crowne Plaza, while sounds of jazz fill up lots of clubs and cafes of the city, with artists swiftly taking turns there. Big band, Brazilian jazz, funk, fusion style and vocal - music for all tastes, so to say. And naturally, the Ottawa festival stages have been graced by the most renowned Canadian jazz musicians - Diana Krall, Oscar Peterson and Rob McConnell. Highlights of the last summer's festival were also Gladys Knight, Buudy deFranco, and Oliver Jones trio.
