Le Dragon Bleu, Director Robert Lepage. Simon Fraser University, 2 – 27 February 2010, Vancouver

Blue Dragon, one of the most recent works by the Canadian multi-disciplinary artist, the brilliant theatre director Robert Lepage, is a sequel to his Dragons' Trilogy, the first part of which originally put his name on the European theatre map. Today, Lepage is one of the world's five most influential directors and works with the best theatre companies worldwide; still, he always keeps coming back to his own Ex Machina theatre laboratory in Quebec to create something new.
Lepage's Dragons' Trilogy grew from the stories that the director was told as a child by his mother: stories of war, of a card game lost to a Chinese... The actual facts in these stories were always further developed in a much more magnificent and outrageous direction. According to Lepage, this was exactly the approach they chose for the Dragon productions: real stories unfolded themselves into a completely new fantastic reality. Lepage's theatre deals with secrets, miracles and surprises, and that is exactly what the spectators love it for so much - the rediscovered ability to be amazed and get emotionally involved during a theatre performance.
