Old Winter Palace

The Old Winter Palace, a British colonial style building dated 1886, is located on the very bank of the Nile; it is a popular holiday destination for the English aristocracy and other sorts of swell circles. Elegant rooms, a magnificent pool and a terrace excellently suited for cocktails and light snacks in a pleasant company.
The hotel is a short distance from the temple of Karnak, a famous archaeological monument you definitely have to visit. You will be taken there in a coach expecting passengers in front of the Old Winter Palace daily.
Do remember, however, that there are actually two Winter Palace hotels, a new one and an old one, and you should make clear your wish to stay at the old one. The location is beautiful, crammed with small shops, Egyptian cafés and market places. A visit to the other bank of the Nile to see the ancient crypts of pharaohs in the Valley of Kings is a must.
