Le Relais de Venise 'L'Entrecôte'

An absolute paradox! A restaurant with people queuing up at its entrance until small hours. Yet, those, who manage to squeeze into a small space, have to put up with a shocking truth - instead of an exquisite eatery a total chaos awaits inside! Tables close to each other and the whole place packed with people. Up and down along the narrow stairs maneuvers waiters with loaded trays and smiles in their faces. Owners of neighboring restaurants, offering good quality food and service, too, can do nothing else but hanker for Le Relais de Venise swarming huddle.
No menus offered there - and no need for them either, as only one dish is available, while service itself looks a lot like a conveyer. Hungry guests are swiftly seated at the tables, supplied with paper napkins with numbers. With little pomp waiters throws some green salad, garnished with walnuts, on dishes. Then follow french fries and trimmed entrecôte steak. And this is the moment of truth when you understand, why people keep coming here - tender and juicy steak literally melts in your mouth! And that sauce...mmm! And when it is finished - a second helping of fries and entrecôte follows. Finally a meal winds up with a dessert. Surprising as it might seem, this place is still pervaded with a warm personal touch. Waiters communicate easily with everyone, yet, only in a French language, and free and friendly ambience fills the place.
No dress code whatsoever is required. Just the other way round - it might be smart to save your Sunday best. Grease and rush...and anything might happen. However, even an absolute chaos may have some savor and, who knows - maybe that is a secret, why people keep returning.

Blue Elephant

A wonderful thai restaurant and a genuine paradise for orchid lovers. Fantastic lush flower compositions regale one's eyes not only during a meal - upon leaving, a waiter, bowing deeply, hands each lady a fabulous fresh flower, flown in from the Far East! It is almost a sure pledge that you will want to return there again.
The Blue Elephant, being a long standing restaurant, has managed to maintain its charm till this very day. Any Paris guide is unthinkable without one of its favorite destinations on rue de la Roquette, therefore it is always full of foreign gourmets and getting a table without a prior booking is next to impossible. Those, who have come here to treat their taste buds for the first time, might get scared of a ramshackle shape of a building. It seems that the old house is about to collapse. Whereas an interior of the Blue Elephant features a traditional thai style that has found its expression also in stylized thai costumes of waitresses.
Looking through the vast menu it is easy to get confused, although it lessens credibility in a high quality performance of all the dishes. Tasting plate might not be the best choice - along with fabulously delicious pieces you may strike some less savory bits. However, fish and seafood offer is outstanding! And spicy soups with coconut milk are excellent, too.
Prices are quite reasonable and no strict dress code is to be observed. You can buy also champagne, nuts, a little teapot or some other souvenir with Blue Elephant emblem on it.

A Toutes Les Filles

„All for girls" - these clothing and accessories stores can be found in just two locations in Paris - rue de la Pompe and rue de Courcelles. However, they are not so easy to enter. The doors are locked and, wishing to have a closer look at pretty attractive collections of Dolce & Gabbana, Ermanno Scervino and other brands, you have to ring a bell. Accordingly, it feels a bit like a private club, visited by connoisseurs only.
A Toutes Les Filles is a pleasant contrast to pompous and snobbish designer stores of today, with window dressings that rather set off then attract devotees of fine brands. Garments and accessories are displayed in a simple and tasteful manner, while amiable shop assistants gladly treat you to a cup of coffee or some fresh fashion magazines. And a lady, performing manicure and pedicure in the middle of the store among fitting rooms and clothes-hangers, adds even more charm to its cozy atmosphere. It is a sight to be seen, indeed! While someone tries on elegant outfits, she happily preens your toenails!
And if a purchased piece of clothing is too loose or too long, the required amendments will be done there on the spot.
