Trishna, Mumbai

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

Frequented by locals, this historic sea-food restaurant features a distinct bistro décor - small area, simple wooden furniture and denuded brick walls. Although located on a tiny alley, it's a fav spot of the city. Be sure to make a reservation in advance and preferably secure a table in the first dining room. If you arrive shortly before 8pm, don't be surprised seeing all the tables still vacant, with a reservation sign on each of them, and about 20 waiters whiling their time away. It's just for the time being. People are dining late there and in few moments the place will be packed full! A tandoor oven is already sizzling and a savory aroma of fried fish fills the room. Food is just fabulous there - starting from local delicacy Bombay duck fish, small and full of bones, to juicy pomfret. Whatever the other dishes might be, crabs are Trishna's specialty - with or without shell, they are just superb!
Starters and salad cost from 100 to 200 INR, main course - around 500-600 INR, good wine - 1200-1500 INR. It has to be noted that if your visit falls on a dry day, no alcohol will be available regardless of how much money you'd be ready to offer.
