Boating routes in Kurzeme region

Boating can be a contemplating and relaxing trip along calm waters or an exciting adventure with intense paddling through raging rapids or struggling with coastal waves of the sea. In any case, it’s a wonderful recreation and a source of positive emotions. You can go by a two- or three-seated boat or gather several boat crews. And you can do it in any season, even in winter, provided that you are properly prepared and equipped. In any case, good time is guaranteed! Why to opt for Kurzeme region rivers? The area offers diversity as some rivers flow into open waters of the Baltic Sea while others into much calmer Riga Bay. There is a chance to slice some waves at the end of the trip when you have finally reached the sea and it seems that you have no more strength left after rowing for two days. Another positive aspect is that Kurzeme rivers are never crowded as boating traffic is less intense there. The best rivers to mention (for those who love extreme adventures during high waters in spring) are Abava, Imula and Amula. Also Roja, Užava, Irbe and Rinda are great choice for boating. Venta, the largest river of the area is not mentioned because it is just too big and wide. Small, meandering ones with rapids and obstacles are more attractive and can offer more diverse boating experience. Each of these rivers has its own unique nature – one is faster, another - shallower, one has more obstacles while some other boasts beautiful scenery along its banks.
