My Music, Arken Museum of Modern Art, through March 25, 2018
The My Music exhibition, opening in October at the Arken Museum of Modern Art wonderfully illustrates the unpredictable interaction between the many impressions and impulses provided by the modern world, which change as quickly as the pictures on a Facebook timeline. The exhibition centres on the relationship between pop music and visual art. As declared by Lady Gaga, ‘Pop culture was in art, now art’s in pop culture, in me.’ Both of these fields have merged into a single show-business entity that humorously reflects contemporary society and its ideals. In addition to Lady Gaga, the exhibition also features Elton John, Nathalie Djurberg, Hans Berg, Pipilotti Rist, and many others. Swedish video artist Djurberg’s animations play a particularly significant role, with their main characters – modern pop culture icons made out of clay – taking a friendly jab at the madness of today’s consumer culture and cult of the body.
