David Lachapelle: Jesus is my homeboy, Monnaie de Paris, from 5 February until 17 May, 2009

Wolfgang Roth and Partners Fine Art - one of the most sophisticated art galleries in Miami, opened on 8 October and boasting the total space of 8000 square feet - presents David Lachapelle's Jesus Is My Homeboy exhibition opening on 2 December; the show will move on to Paris in February. The exhibition features all six works of the series, published in 2003 in the I-D magazine and centred on criticism of consumerist society.
David Lachapelle is, without the shadow of a doubt, one of the most prominent and eccentric photographers today; the range of his interests includes fashion, advertisement and art photography. Lachapelle, who also actively works as a director, stages his frames in a painstaking and thoughtful manner: his photographs often are more reminiscent of a cinema story or a painting than of photography in the textbook sense of the term.
David Lachapelle, said to have taken his first picture - a portrait of his mother - at the tender age of 6 during a vacation stay in Puerto Rico, has always cited Michelangelo as his idol in art. His first job was at the Interview magazine which he was invited to join by Andy Warhol. Since 1987 Lachapelle has been working for publications like Vanity Fair, The Face, Vogue, The Rolling Stone, etc. In 2003 The American Photo Magazine ranked him among the most significant contemporary artists of photography.
