The Black Eyed Peas
Musical critics generally don't count themselves among the admirers of Black Eye Peas - not that they are short of fans worldwide. The hip hop quartet from Los Angeles is definitely one of the most successful 21st-century bands to date. In January 2010, the Black Eye Peas left the annual Grammy ceremony with three awards, including one for the best pop album (The E.N.D.). Besides, they have been officially declared the best-sold act by the iTunes Store, the number-one online store selling mp3 format music. A few years ago, Black Eyed Peas took by surprise the audience of the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), demonstrating a considerable knack for jazz improvisation and a great feel for musical impulses. However, both The E.N.D. and the band's new concert programme present a completely different musical orientation - a hi-tech style show scoured of anything human.
The music of Black Eyed Peas is a blend of hip hop, electronic music and club-style trance, more reminiscent of ready-made ring tones than actual songs. The band members appear on the stage sporting the image of pop cyborgs; the vocals are manufactured by treating their voices with an assortment of modifying software. That's how Black Eyed Peas see the music of future. Their vision is enthusiastically embraced by millions of their fans.
