Meric

The most sophisticated food in the city! The Meric restaurant is housed at the Hotel de la Paix and is definitely worth paying a visit even if you are not staying there. As far as its style, design, ambience and cuisine are concerned, it could be located in any of the great world capitals. Make sure you choose a courtyard table: at night, when the live fire is burning in the large stone basins and the old fig tree - the centrepiece of the courtyard - is reflected eerily in the water, it feels a little like a film set. White tablecloths, excellent crockery and glassware. Every detail has been paid a great deal of attention. A small vial with mosquito repellent spray is served with the menu; it smells intoxicatingly of lemongrass. The tiny bloodsuckers are particularly active at sunrise and sunset, and that's certainly a thing to be reckoned with.
The restaurant serves fabulously fresh and creative Oriental fusion food. Meric means 'pepper' in Khmer. All the vegetables, fruits and herbs are locally grown. Do try the Mekong lobster the size of a huge prawn. Ice-cream and yoghurt are prepared at the restaurant. A very good choice of wine, excellent service.
