Coconut Lagoon

Coconut Lagoon, owned by the Indian Casino Group chain of hotels, is located in the middle of Vembanad Lake and can be reached exclusively by boat. It is marketed as one of the most beautiful and authentic accommodation venues in Kerala. And yet, once you actually get there, the place will lose some of its surface beauty: yes, it is breathtakingly magnificent, yes, in the middle of a lake. It is impeccably clean and well taken care of, and yet - the sheer size of the place (50 rooms) adds a whiff of mass tourism to its flavour. The water surrounding Coconut Lagoon is not that clear as it looks in pictures, either. It is very clean in the swimming pool (chlorinated, of course, but then it would be a bit daft to go for anything else in India). Coconut Lagoon is definitely not the place to spend some quality time with a book, not even in the ostensibly solitary nooks seemingly designed for this purpose. There is an option of choosing a mansion in the farthermost corner of Coconut Lagoon, and yet - for this kind of money (from USD 319) you can do so much better in Kerala. Otherwise it has to be said that the place offers good value for money and is definitely not the worst place for getting acquainted with Keralan backwaters.
