Privacy at Sanctuary Bay

The best thing about this place is the view and the silence. You have two options: either stay in a suite in a separate lakeside building or in a two-bedroom cottage some 50 yards or so from there. The cottage comes with a lovely terrace in the middle of a pond full of water-lilies. The downside: unless you book the whole cottage you may have to share it. Ideally you would do wise to secure the whole property for the time of your stay. The cottage is perhaps more authentic and better-planned design-wise (antique furniture and an open-air bathroom); the strongest point of the suite is the terrace and the lake literally a stone's throw away. The terrace is equipped with two fantastically comfortable rocking chairs to lounge the day away watching life cinema slowly unfold in front of your eyes. Depending on the direction of the wind it either brings small isles of water hyacinths closer to the shore or carries them away. Watch the fishermen's boats slowly gliding on the water, and early in the morning the most fabulous Indian sunset is just a step away.
The food is provided by Malabar House, which means a pleasant fusion of European and Asian cuisines; after a week in the mountains (or any other inland place) living on traditional curry (very hot, hot or hottish) your taste buds will have started to feel a slight fatigue.
A recent addition is a swimming pool, the lack of which was previously the only real shortcoming of the place. Privacy is the third sibling hotel of Malabar Escapes and a perfect ending to your Indian adventure. It has the perfect location: away from it all and yet just an hour's drive from Cochin (make time for some last-minute shopping before you catch the plane). It is also only a two-and-a-half-hour drive to the airport (if you take one of the very few Keralan highways).
