Bombay Electric

The New York Times has dubbed Bombay Electric "the Barney's of Mumbai". Located opposite the most luxurious hotel in Mumbai, Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Bombay Electric is a cutting-edge fashion concept store that could equally be placed in Berlin, London or Paris. Its interior still preserves former factory building details, just adding some fresh new Indian glamour and eccentricity. Mannequins hang in white chains, old sewing machines, painted white and topped with sleek glass surfaces continue their service as showcases for accessories, and works of local artists adorn the walls. The store offers a range of men's, women's and kids' clothing. All the top names on the current Indian fashion scene are represented here and it's also a place to visit if you search for original accessories. Both jewelry and hand-woven silk and cashmere scarves are originals of local artists and feature a skillful fusion of ethnic elements and modernity. The store serves as a platform for diverse creative activities, offering its space for unusual art projects. It hosts book readings, photo exhibitions and various initiatives of local artisans. Elizabeth Hurley chose Bombay Electric to launch her beach wear in India and the store has showcased hand-woven items honoring Mahatma Gandhi's life (the project done in collaboration with Women Weave). It has to be marked that also price-wise, Bombay Electric reaches the level of European concept stores.
