Bungalow 8

Bungalow 8 is a destination in itself - a true lifestyle temple that stuns with its scope and elaboration in its concept, details and a variety of goods. The store is situated in a well-preserved historic three-storey building of Colaba area, featuring antique tile floors and heavy, carving adorned wooden doors. Patina of time oozes from its every detail - tall walls, high ceilings with massive wooden cross beams and monumental stairs that lead from one floor to another. No flashy signboard signals of its location. You just have to push open the heavy entrance door to find yourself is a huge stylized dining-room with two luxuriously laid wooden tables in the centre.

Antique cupboards laden with crockery, tableware and textiles extend along the walls. These are unique South Asian design items, both modern and vintage, that would adorn any home and interior. Simultaneously, the store serves as enormous source of inspiration as well. Each item and every corner of the spacious room has its own story to tell - an ascetic one in its simplicity or filled with exquisite details. The second floor holds everything needed for a bedroom and a bathroom - bed linen, duvets and bedspreads, pillows, pyjamas, robes and slippers. There are bathroom accessories, including a bathtub as well. The entire third floor is devoted to fashion. Worth of special attention is a jewelry collection carefully selected by the Bungalow proprietor Maithili Ahluwalia herself. She has brought together the most exquisite creations of Indian craftsmen from all across the country. A special fashion line for Bungalow is designed by French designer Matthieu Leguillon, who has worked for both for YSL and Lanvin.

Bungalow 8 was set up in 2003 by the young and undeniably charming Indian lady Maithili Ahluwalia, who was just 24 years old at that time and had freshly returned from business strategy and management studies abroad. She realized that Mumbai lacks a good lifestyle store that would represent the very best that the Southeast Asian design has to offer. Her fine aesthetic taste obviously has been polished since the very childhood - Maithili's grandma has worked for Chanel while her mother has been a jewelry designer. Her creations are available at Bungalow 8 as well, next to original works of young and talented Indian artists.
