Carte Blanche perhaps is one of the best restaurants in Pondicherry. It is hiding in a courtyard of the hotel L'Orient, housed in an 18th century building in the very heart of the former French district. L'Orient belongs to the Neemrana Hotels, an Indian company that manages 9 heritage hotels. The restaurant is famous for its Creole cuisine, oozing a colorful bouquet of Tamil spices and Carte Blanche dishes served in the finest French gourmet style. Be sure to try the delicious bouillabaisse soup, which according to French-Creole recipe is made with coconut milk, not just tomato and saffron broth.
Live music played there in the evenings can be regarded both as a positive and a negative aspect - sometimes it reaches decibels that disturb peaceful savoring of the otherwise pleasant atmosphere of this place.
