The store sells assorted stylish items, from small souvenirs and home design knickknacks (including Indian-style mirrors) to cushions, bed linen, gifts, books and even clothing - the latter actually being the real reason to pay a visit to the shop located near the Le Dupleix hotel. The Upasana brand is the collective brainchild of the Auroville community, the "City of Dawn" and meditation centre founded in 1968. Auroville is where the vivid and slightly unusual clothing items are designed and produced as one of the income sources for the community. You will find quality cotton clothes in stores of the Fab India and Soma chains in Pondicherry and elsewhere in India but what makes VIBE stand apart is its atypical westernised take on India: there is something special about each item, and the style of these freethinkers and former hippies really can't be mistaken for anyone else's.
