DakshinaChitra Open Air Museum is a worthwhile destination for those who wish to dive deeper into India's culture and ethnography. The historic village comprises 17 heritage houses that give an authentic insight into the life of people in South India 150 years back in history. Art, crafts, folklore and the local lifestyle are presented in an easily comprehensible manner, even for a westerner, perhaps owing to the fact that the museum has been established by an American born art historian and museum specialist.
Museum features a craft bazaar and offers a variety of fascinating activities for kids, such as making wicker baskets using ancient plaiting techniques.
