The only luxury boutique hotel in the city which, like Sterling Swamimalai, belongs to INDeco hotels. The small bungalow-type cottages present the hotel's eco-friendly concept complete with an Indian "sauce"; besides, Sterling Mahabalipuram is very popular not only with foreign travellers but also among well-to-do Indians, which makes the place even more charming - you are constantly reminded that you are, after all, staying in India! Apart from the 30 rooms and an excellent restaurant the hotel houses a small centre of Ayurvedic medicine and an antiques museum - except you won't even dream of spending too much time there, being well aware of the fact that the hotel beach on the shore of the Bay of Bengal is but a stone's throw away... Besides, the city itself is well worth a slow and quiet walk with the local tourist magnets - stone sculptures and waterfront temples - located not that far away, either.
