Santiniketan

Santiniketan, a beloved town of the Nobel Prize laureate writer Rabindranath Tagore, is located in West Bengal about 180 km north of Kolkata. It's a home to Visva-Bharati University, envisioned and founded by Tagore and boasting an exceptionally strong art department. The university has produced many outstanding art personalities, who have enriched the world with their impressive esoteric and spiritual based works.
The entire Santiniketan town with predominantly one and two floor buildings exudes a deep tranquility and presence of art. Its large territory is devoted to Tagore Memorial Museum, a park and a chapel. The town has its own deer park, too. The artist K. G. Subramanyan has recently finished turning facades of the university into a huge artwork, while similar monumental paintings can be spotted throughout the entire town.
