Mekong Estate

Mekong Estate, located on the Mekong River, is a little off the tourist treaded city centre, not far from the Phosy Market, a chief food oasis of the area. It offers fabulous apartment-style lodgings, sited in separate houses, the whole complex being developed by trio of a Swiss architect, a Luang Prabang-born entrepreneur and a French media consultant. What they have achieved is a true gem of Swiss architecture, fused with the best and modernized local building traditions. Its interiors feature excellent local materials - teakwood floors and furniture, mulberry-paper lamps and silk textiles. Each accommodation has a lovely terrace, overlooking a calm flow of dark-brown Mekong River. Breakfast is served right in a guest's living room when busy traffic on the river has long since started, with boats passing by and people going about their daily lives, subsiding only at nightfall when the sun slides behind the mountains. The surroundings seem even more charming from a terrace or a 25-meters long swimming pool, said to be the longest one in the whole Laos, giving a surreal impression of melting into the river.
Mekong Estate is just perfect for leisurely travelers who plan to stay at least a week there. It offers attentive, personalized service, custom-made for each guest's needs and requirements. A bonus is a free transportation to the nearby waterfalls or a spur-of-the-moment open-air movie performance right on the river bank. Free of charge bicycles are available too, the city centre being reachable within 5 to 10 minutes. Thus you can step into shoes of locals, savor the city or get away from it, if that is your choice.
