Hotel Albergo

The Hotel Albergo is one of the most charming places to stay in Beirut. It can be found in Achrafieh, one of the city's oldest Christian quarters and home to numerous luxury villas and apartment buildings built by the area's wealthy, Greek families.
The Hotel Albergo is located on Abdel Wahab El Inglizi Street, which has managed to retain the vibrant atmosphere of Beirut's legendary, first period of independence (1943-1975). This was the time when the city experienced an unprecedented economic and cultural revival, and was justifiably known as the Paris of the East. The hotel operates from a residence that has been restored to the full splendour of the 1930s. While it has only 33 rooms, each of them has a unique theme drawn from Lebanon's rich heritage of multicultural influences. The hotel's original elevator ambles between the floors unhurriedly, as a prelude to a trip back in time. Indeed, the room interiors are replete with an antique and Belle Epoque romance, very much like a voyage on the fabled Orient Express.
One of the Hotel Albergo's trump cards is its rooftop terrace, which has been converted into a lush garden. It formerly offered a splendid vista of green, city squares and a breathtaking coastline. However, imprudent city planning policies have recently turned many of the neighbourhood's parks into dusty construction sites. The Albergo is the only hotel in Beirut to be a member of the Relais & Châteaux hotel alliance. It also hosts the Al Dante Italian restaurant in the same building, which is popular with the locals.
