The National Museum of Tajikistan

After years of renovation Tajikistan has reopened its national museum in June 2013. Artifacts displayed in its 22 halls are authentic evidences of the country's rich cultural heritage and ancient history, reaching as far back as the times of Zoroastrian philosophy, 3.500 years ago. A unique and priceless item there is a carved wooden Iskadarian Mehrab, discovered in the village of Iskadar, with carvings consists of over 100 species of ornament. One of the most famous attractions of the museum is a 12 meters long and 5.5 tons heavy reclining Buddha's statue. It has been brought here from an ancient Buddhist town in western Tajikistan and is considered to be one of the largest Buddha sculptures in the world.
