Hyatt Regency

The Hyatt Regency hotel opened this year in Dushanbe is, as yet, the only five-star hotel in the city. Located a short distance from the city centre, just opposite the prospective Ismaili Cultural Centre, tentatively scheduled for an autumn opening, the laconic new glass-walled building offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and the new Presidential Palace. The hotel's interior is an elegant and, at the same time, discreet play on ethnic motifs - featured in the brownish-beige fabric patterns on the walls. Even the standard rooms are reasonably large and comfortable; the decor is dominated by wood and leather. Design-wise, Hyatt Regency is currently definitely the best hotel in the city, offering anything you might need and no superfluous extravagancies. The hotel also hosts a restaurant complete with a terrace bar; the menu is dominated by a creative European cuisine. In summer, when the mercury raises above the mark of + 37º C, a swim in the Hyatt pool is very pleasant indeed. The recreation wing of the hotel is also home to a spa, a sauna and a steam bath. The only drawback is the fact that the hotel is still half-empty; at breakfast time, you are haunted by the feeling of being the only guest in the building. Besides, unlike most other hotels in the city, Hyatt makes an undisguised attempt to make profit on literally everything: the price of the room does not include breakfast; a separate fee is collected for visitor registration (mandatory in Tajikistan if you are staying for more than three days) and internet access (USD 10 per hour).
