XVA Art Hotel

XVA Art Hotel is an accommodation ideally suited to those who are terrified by the mere thought of a huge hotel and haunted by claustrophobia in the lift cabins of Dubai skyscrapers. The tiny hotel - which actually trebles as an art gallery and a café - offers just six rooms. It is located in the historical Bastakiya district, in a hundred year-old Dubai merchant's house. The rooms flanking the reasonably large patio are comparatively small and provide but ascetic basics necessary for an overnight stay. Each of the rooms, however, is different: all six were designed by local artists. The single significant drawback is the fact that the hotel can only be reached on foot: even taxis are not allowed any further than the gates of the old town. And then there is this nagging thought at the back of your mind, this feeling that XVA Art Hotel, which would not look out of place in any other corner of the world, does not really suite Dubai that well: you will not catch as much as a glimpse of the panorama of this 21st century metropolis from the small window of your room.
