Hilol (Kush Kelibsiz) Plov Centre

The Tashkent plov centre recently moved to new premises located near the television tower. The ambience of the impressively-sized place is truly colourful: plov is prepared in three giant pots outside the eatery. They start to serve lunch from 12 pm; latecomers arriving after 1 pm may find the pots empty. The menu includes nothing but plov, tea and salads: no beer or wine. The centre comprises a number of large dining halls; in some of them chairs are upholstered in white fabric. Patrons of the place include suit-clad Tashkent entrepreneurs; empty seats are nowhere to be seen: the whole Tashkent social life unfolds right here, in front of your very eyes. The greatest number of plov-lovers are said to gather here on Thursdays when, in keeping with the local tradition, the perfectly steamed lamb is served in larger helpings than usual. It is rumoured to be „good for men" - with the approaching Friday night in the company of their wives in mind...
