Das Triest

Opened in 1995, Das Triest is one of the Vienna's first design hotels. It is set in a former coach station, once used by well-off passengers going in cure tours to Italian city Trieste, a part of Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time. Nowadays, the only reminders of those distant days are black & white photos of Vienna and Trieste, adorning its walls. Décor of the hotel is created by the British interior designer Sir Terence Conran, who has skillfully fused both historic and modern details in it. Laconism and comfort are keywords there. Somewhat ironic parallels with a traditional British style can be traced in armchairs upholstered in typical British tweed with leather-patched headrests and in a bathroom design. The hotel has 72 guestrooms, including 13 suites, and even the standard ones are big enough to make you feel at home. Each room features all the modern amenities, like Apple iMac, serving as a TV screen as well and wireless Internet connection. A truly marvelous breakfast in a warm weather can be enjoyed al fresco, under the olive trees.
The hotel is sited in about 5 minutes walking distance from the famous Naschmarkt, opened on Saturdays, and 10 minutes from the St. Stefan Cathedral.
