Bar / restaurant Motto is among the Vienna's must-see spots, yet a casual passerby would hardly even find it. Although the address is Shonbrunnerstrasse 30, the entrance to Motto is from the nearby Rudigergasse (no signboard whatsoever). It has become a total "in" venue of Vienna - a meeting place that has attained a status of an institution already, always swarming with a stylish and colorful crowd of creative people. It's noteworthy that its kitchen works until 3 a.m., while Motto itself is opened from 6.00 p.m. to 4.00 a.m. Both prices and the atmosphere are most friendly there, while the cuisine is just superb. You'll almost instantly feel at home, and if no vacant tables are available, you'll be invited to sit at the bar for a while. People are constantly coming and going, someone is leaving and towards the morning returning again. Motto is set in the same address since 1991, yet unexpectedly to its regular guests, it altered its décor entirely in 2008. The architectural bureau BHEF transformed it into an "innovative living room", bringing in glamour and decadent coziness. Now it features walls upholstered in velvet, deep purple hues and bright dabs of turquoise, orange and yellow chairs. Attached to the gray ceilings are shapes of the same color gray babies - painted dolls, looking down into your plate. Mirrors of the bath-room produce your reflection tenfold, suddenly making you calculate how many wine glasses have been drained already...
Cocktails and wines are served in colorful glasses, custom-made by Nason & Moretti at the Island of Murano. Motto's seasonal menu varies from the classical Viennese to Asian fusion cuisine. Although the restaurant has smoking and non-smoking areas, it goes almost without saying that its true aficionados prefer the first one.
