Park

Vienna fashion store PARK was especially recommended by professors of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. They use to go shopping there whenever they have money. Located in 5-minute walking distance from the central shopping street Mariahilferstrasse, it was established almost 10 years ago - in 2004. Its unique atmosphere and assortment still embody the initial idea of its founders - Markus Strasser, a graduate of art and fashion studies in Antwerp, and his business partner, Helmut Ruthner.
Avoiding both the stiff atmosphere of posh fashion stores and the air of department stores with their mass-market fashion, they created a space to present their very own fashion and design taste. PARK offers only the finest quality things that resonate with their own sense of beauty.
The main focus of this 2-storey shop is the latest trends of international fashion. PARK visits Paris four times a year to attend fashion shows, to meet designers and to order new collections, and the criterion is a simple - they purchase only those brands and collections, which they consider to be cool! According to Markus Strasser PARK will never sell anything just because it would give high turnover. They do not take the path of less resistance but create long-term relationships with the designers instead. "Eight years ago it wasn't easy to sell Haider Ackermann designs; they were expensive and his name was completely unknown," tells Markus, „but today he is in great demand, and people willingly buy his designs." It takes time and efforts for the less-known fashion designers to gain popularity, and one of the company's goals is to collaborate with fashion designers for many years, to casts light on their development and to make them accessible at PARK.
Markus Strasser works as a designer too and has created a small cashmere winter season collection, but generally PARK purchases collections of other designers. Initially having focused mostly on Belgian culture, fashion and design, PARK continues to represent alumni of the Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp also today. The store features clothes designed by Raf Simons and Ann Demeulemeester, but its assortment has broadened considerably nowadays. It offers also Acne from Sweden, Anntian from Berlin, collections of Bernhard Willhelm and Christophe Lemaire from Paris, garments of Croatian fashion designer Damir Doma and creations of several Austrian fashion designers. The store mixes classical values and very special and peculiar items.
Although PARK sells mostly fashion, you can find there also furniture, design items and books - the ones that are read by the owners themselves. "Books," says Marcus, "go along with these garments. They support fashion. And the life, too."
