Cafe Josephine

Cafe Josephine

Josephine, situated on the same street as Chocolats de Pierre, is another superb coffee place in Tallinn, and none of the both is to be missed! Belonging to the same owners and similar in style, they possess entirely different ambiance. Josephine is named after Josephine Baker, a legendary black American dancer of the beginning of the 20th century. Her stylized images adorn café's columns while its décor features a mix of bohemian kitsch and amazing amiability, all at the same time. Violet plush sofas and almost each chair decorated with a different painting. Old tureens instead of flowerpots and a palm tree growing in the middle of the room. Lots of candles at the walls, an antique theatrical costume and some old hats casually thrown on a rack - as if forgotten by absent-minded customers 80 or so years ago. Some tables covered in silk, some in plush, while some other have no tablecloths at all. Josephine's chocolate, a flowerpot with her name and some other antique trinkets scattered in a show-window and a somewhat weather-worn quality about almost anything there. A great place for morning or afternoon coffee. Fabulous cakes and sandwiches,

WHAT A LOVELY PLACE !!!!! I heard about this café
from a friend and now it is my favourite place in
Tallinn. With number 5 I mean the best, if I understood correctly. Absolutely feminine, lovely,
colourful and just the right café for 2 women enjoying afternoon coffee and a light snack. Very clean and pretty. A bit sexy, too. I wish I had been there with a man .....Our table had a lamp that looked like ladies legs dressed in black stockings and red velvet. - I wish I had discoved the café much earlier,- after all I´ve been visiting Tallinn for 8 years about 4-5 times each
year. The small chocolate café close by is also very pretty and both cafés have cakes that make you wish you could bite a slice out of them all.
