F-Hoone

Today Tallinn's Kalamaja suburban district is characterized by carefree, bohemian vibe and vigorous creative activity. The area comprises wooden houses built around the 1920' and 1930' and a complex of industrial structures, hooped by railway lines.
Formerly located there, Mikhail Kalinin Electromechanical Factory once produced extremely complicated equipment that was even being sent to orbit onto the Sputnik, the famous Soviet space satellite. Now the old factory complex is called Telliskivi Loomelinnak and only creative ideas are being transmitted into space from there and received back. It has become an area for creative activity, art and entertainment while in the so called F-building or F-Hoone a new restaurant of the same name has recently been open.
It was a long awaited opening, since the rather large complex had no other place where one could have a meal. The new restaurant is able to feed everyone - the former vast production space is fully utilized and tables are placed even outside, along the sides of the driveway.
F-Hoone features a truly impressive interior. A large rotating ventilator is hanged in steel cables some meters above your head. Tables are placed on a podium, built in the level of window-sills and, with several meters tall windows in the background, resemble tiny theatrical scenery. One can only try to imagine for what purpose each square meter once has served there. The walls are either plastered up and whitewashed, or just whitewashed, revealing texture of the underlying surface. Someplace fragments of denuded bricks can be noticed or former attempts of self-expression through colors - sovietish yellow and green. A several meters long bar counter, topped with colorful tile mosaic, stretches along the entire length of one wall with impressive aluminum lamps hanging above it. Sincere jealousy sounds in the remarks of local artists, telling that a place like this would have been a dreamlike space for their studios.
Although just recently opened, F-Hoone boasts to have perhaps the best kitchen in the city. Coconut-milk soup with chicken and curry is rich in flavors and so refreshing that it even seems to make your mind spin faster!
F-Hoone offers 150 seats, yet during afternoon hours most of them are occupied by colorful crowd of Tallinn, while some are sealed with reservation cards.
