Raamatukoi

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Almost all the Tallinn bookstores have found their home under the wing of large shopping centers, only secondhand and antiquarian bookshops prefer more autonomous existence.
Raamatukoi* antiquarian bookshop confidently continues to inhabit the same address for already 30 years, located on one of the central pedestrian streets of old Tallinn - Harju Street.
A specific odor of dust and yellowish pages of old books ooze in the air and the shelves are loaded with uneven rows of rebound and otherwise mended books with frayed edges, well-thumbed pages and some coffee blots here and there. Some book is sprinkled with notes on its margins, some has pledges of love left in its pages, while yet another one bears creative expressiveness of a four-years-old, having depicted an entire family with a dog on the title page...
A special room at Raamatukoi is devoted to foreign literature in original languages - in English, Russian and German. The pride of Raamatukoi - a hundreds of years old Bible shares a glass case with yet another piece of almost the sacred scripture - an ancient cookbook.
Aside from rare treasures of the world of books, deep, centenarian wooden chests hold an impressive collection of classical music vinyl records.
