Ateneum Art Museum

The holdings of the late 1800s-founded Ateneum Art Museum contain the largest and most significant collection of Finnish art, tracing the development of national art from the 1700s to the present day. The various halls house Rococo-era portraits, Romantic painting, landscapes by artists representing the Düsseldorf school of painting, the best examples of realism and Symbolism, demonstrating the influence of the fin de siècle Paris as well as a collection of 20th century Finnish Expressionism, Impressionism, Cubism and Surrealism. The museum also holds more than 650 works by foreign artists, including paintings and sculptures by the likes of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, Marc Chagall, Eugène Delacroix, Francisco Goya, Amadeo Modigliani, Ilya Repin, Edvard Munch and Auguste Rodin.
