Sinebrychoff Art Museum

The Sinebrychoff Art Museum, Finland's only museum specialising in the art of European Old Masters of the 14th to early 19th centuries, holds significant collections of Swedish, Flemish and Italian painting, furniture, silverware, porcelain and an impressive collection of miniatures comprising over 400 items. The holdings are based on the private collection of Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff, which the couple donated to the state in 1921; hence the location of the museum - the former residence of the Sinebrychoff family. Another 20 private collections of foreign art were a later addition to the museum holdings. The permanent exhibition also includes the Old Masters collection of the Ateneum Art Museum. The rooms house works by Lucas Cranach, José de Ribera and Gerard ter Borch; perhaps the most interesting of all, however, is a painting by the 17th-century Dutch artist Hieronymus Franken, titled At the Art Lovers' Gallery, a fine illustration of the interior favoured by art enthusiasts of the time.
