Corona Bar

Corona Bar

The fact alone that Corona Bar, opened in 1991 by Aki and Mika Kaurismäki still exists, seems proving its value. The place draws fans of Finnish filmmaking brothers - mostly aged between 30 and 40, who like to sip some beers and while away some time playing billiard (9 billiard tables and a snooker table are available in the back of the premises). Quite naturally, all the walls are plastered with movie posters and film stills while somewhat roughish and raucous ambiance saturates its movie-like settings. Regardless of 18-years of history, Corona Bar has lost nothing of its initial spark. The ground floor houses 183-seat cinema that no longer features regular film screening, but mostly offers space to festivals, performances and other events instead. A Russian merchant was selling candies at the beginning of the 20th century there, while the current cinema hall served as firewood storage. Corona Bar is open daily from 11am to 2am.
