Vapriikki Museum Centre (Museokeskus Vapriikki)

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Inaugurated in the year 2000, the Vapriikki ('Factory') Museum Centre is a modern, functional and multifaceted exhibition site that houses six museums, including the Shoe Museum and the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

The centre's exhibitions cover a wide variety of themes, from archaeological artefacts to contemporary artworks and from handicrafts to the latest technologies.

Vapriikki can be found on the site of a former industrial complex in Tampere's oldest industrial quarter - Tampella, at the edge of the Tammerkoski Canal. Although the last of the quarter's factories shut down during the 1990s, their red brick walls remain as a testimony of the city's former industrial past.

Besides its spacious and ultra-modern exhibition halls, the centre is also home to a restaurant-café, sauna and shop.
