Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, Cap-Ferrat

A pink villa of the Baroness Beatrice Ephrussi Rothschild is one of the most extravagant buildings of the French Riviera belle époque and a popular tourist destination of the region. It is set in grounds of 7 hectare land property that the Baroness bought in 1905. Her wish was to build a villa that would house her huge art and antiquities collection. Its furniture and interior items embrace a period from the 13th to the 18th centuries. Some of the things had even belonged to Maria Antoinette while the Impressionists gallery features landscapes of Monet and Renoir. Its most famous identification mark, however, is the pink color itself, extensively used all over the villa - inside and outside. The house was surrounded by nine different gardens and 30 gardeners took care of them while the Baroness herself watched them working from her terrace. While living there, she used to throw extravagant parties but before her death in 1934, she left the entire property to the French Academy of Fine Arts.
