Nice Art Bistro, Nice

The small street across from Nice's Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is chock full of small and stylish restaurants; one of them is the Nice Art Bistro, and even though it's only been open for one year, it has already received genuine acclaim.

First of all, it distinguishes itself with a great ratio of food quality to price, in addition to carrying a good choice of wines. Secondly, the chef is a virtuoso at his craft, accenting his menu with real surprise touches.

They don't have a printed menu – in the classical sense, that is – guests must read it from a large blackboard that is placed by their table. Definitely try the lettuce salad with calamari; one would expect this to be a light dish, but the warm calamari, grilled in a spicy sauce, make the the dish quite filling. Just as hearty a meal is the shelled half-lobster served with beans. Contrarily, a dish that one would think of as being heavy – swordfish tartar with pineapple chunks and herb sorbet – turns out to be extremely light. Everything appears to be traditional, but it's actually not!

There are only three prices at Nice Art Bistro: all starters are 9 EUR, all main dishes are 14 EUR, and all desserts go for 7 EUR (also on offer is their cafe gourmet deal, which consists of coffee and three different desserts ranging from fresh to rich). On average, the wines here range between 20-25 EUR.
