Cafe de Flore

The way it happens in legendary cafés, you will be sure to run across tourists who, armed with a things-to-see map, are looking for the table at which Jean-Paul Sartre used to sit, and yet Cafe de Flore still hasn't lost the aura of bygone days. This is still the favourite meeting place for the owners of surrounding fashion shops (Sonya Rykiel even has a table of her own here), press secretaries and a number of prominent guests of the city. A 1920s-style interior, enormous mirrors and the feeling that the walls of Cafe de Flore literally breathe the energy of its history. By the way, this is one of the few places in Paris where, should you so wish, Dom Pérignon will be served in a glass. An ideal place to start the day, accompanied by the morning paper and a caffe au lait: café opens at 7.30 a.m., and it's not very likely that many tourists will be around at this hour.
Lunch: EUR 30 on average.
