Market

Cult venues are often very short-lived; Market is different. Opened in 2002, it still retains the status of a favourite destination. The chef and co-owner is Jean-Georges Vongerichten who has reaped laurels in New York, Bangkok, Boston and Hong Kong; his business partners - the filmmaker Luc Besson and François Pinault, the Gucci boss and one of the most influential modern art collectors in France. Oh yes, the address is not bad either: right next to the Christie's auction house and a number of prestigious modern art galleries. The sign of the restaurant is a laconic black "Market" on a beige background - a tourist intoxicated by Champs-Elysées will pass by without giving a second glance. The interior is created by Christian Liaigre, and the best tables - obviously! - offer a view of Avenue Matignon. A light and sophisticated-tasting fusion cuisine. The philosophy behind the name of the restaurant is very simple: everything here is market-fresh. Not cheap, though.
Dinner for one (without wine): EUR 60-80 on average.
