Hotel de Rome

The perfect location - the vast and beautiful Bebelplatz, not far from Unter den Linden, just opposite the Berlin State Opera. Sadly, there is also a very dark spot in the history of the lovely square - the notorious book burning ceremony held by the Nazis in 1933.
Hotel de Rome opened in 2006 and is owned by newcomers to the accommodation scene in Berlin, Rocco Forte Hotels - a small luxury hotel chain that is also the owner of Hotel de Russie in Rome, Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt and Hotel Astoria in St Petersburg. The building was originally designed to house a bank; the premises were used as an exhibition hall later.
As soon as you set foot into the lobby, you are surrounded by a fabulous ambience of cosiness and, we are not afraid of the word, class. Tattered jeans and a T-shirt is probably not quite the right attire, even if you have only stopped by for a cup of coffee. Fire red vases on pedestals in the lobby. An excellent bar designed in a dark colour scheme - the charming ambience seems to be tempting you to stay for a while with your friends and have a Cuba Libre or two.
A huge area is allocated to the lobby; on the one hand, it does seem a bit impractical. On the other hand - the lobby offers countless opportunities to hide away, to become invisible for a while. The hotel comprises 146 rooms and a spa.
