Lux 11

Lux 11 belongs among the favourites of anothertravelguide.com; choose to stay there and you won't regret it. It's hard to imagine a better combination of location, style and rates. Lux 11 is located in the very heart of the Mitte neighbourhood; all the most stylish shops as well as a string of excellent bars and restaurants are a 3-5 minute walk from the hotel. You will literally feel as if you were living in the epicentre of everything that takes place in Berlin.
The elegant minimalist interior of the 72 room hotel was designed by architects Claudio Silvestrin and Giuliana Salmaso: no excesses, no exaggerations, just understated luxury (perhaps with the exception of the fake fur panel in the bed cover). The reception is located on the ground floor of the 1862 building, as well as the Aveda beauty parlour and spa as well as the renowned Shiro i Shiro restaurant (see Where to Eat) where guests of the hotel are served breakfast. Excellent breakfast, by the way.
Rooms are cleaned once every three days (it is an apartment hotel, after all) - so you will just have to make the effort and make your own bed. On weekdays the reception is officially open until 5 pm (normally there is someone hanging around a bit later than that). The street door can be opened with the room key; it only makes you feel even more at home. If there are two of you or you are travelling with children, anothertravelguide.com recommends booking a premiere suite (EUR 180); it has two rooms (one of them complete with a fully equipped kitchenette for those who are not too lazy to cook), the other combines a bedroom and a bathroom. It has to be said at this point that, like at so many other so-called design hotels, the bathroom is separated from the bedroom only by a glass wall. Surely that's not a problem if you are staying with your significant other; should you happen to share the suite with just a friend or an acquaintance, this could escalate into a seriously embarrassing situation. The toilet, unlike the bathroom, is an isolated space almost the size of a small room. There is also a separate alcove for a wardrobe with a mirror. The suite has a small terrace that will create a pleasant sense of spaciousness - even if you don't actually make use of it.
